Punta Ala Polo Cup, a royal tournament in the heart of Maremma

From Wednesday, September 14, to Saturday, September 17, Punta Ala, a hamlet of the municipality of Castiglione della Pescaia, will host the “Punta Ala Polo Cup.” King Charles played in Punta Ala, on a field that, just in the days when England mourns the passing of Queen Elizabeth, is once again set in the splendid Maremma landscape.

From Wednesday, September 14, to Saturday, September 17, Punta Ala, a hamlet of the municipality of Castiglione della Pescaia, will host the “Punta Ala Polo Cup,” an event that marks the restart of grand polo in a location rooted in the equestrian tradition and equestrian sports in our country.

The “Polo Cup” will pave the way for the major event that the International Polo Federation has awarded to FISE (Italian Equestrian Sports Federation), the Women’s European Championship scheduled for next year in Punta Ala, with the Italian team on the field as defending champions.

The idea of giving a new horizon to grand polo in this gem of Maremma was conceived by Gaia Bulgari, president of the organizing committee of the Punta Ala Polo Cup. With her proactive spirit, combined with a passion for sports and horses, she decided, after 30 years since the last matches, to rebuild the historic Polo field, restoring the Punta Ala Equestrian Club with prestigious interventions and in line with the strictest principles respecting biodiversity.

Thanks to this exciting work of recovery, restoration, and reconstruction, Gaia Bulgari has brought the field back to life, improving it in technical and structural solutions. The field, besides hosting the King of England in the past, was frequented by legendary brothers Piero and Raimondo D’Inzeo, the ‘fathers’ of Argentine polo, and great players from the Old Continent.
